Chapter 6

Over the next two weeks, Liam fell into a new routine with Penny as if it were the most natural thing in the world to do. He woke up with her lying beside him, or usually sprawled across his chest. She was an epic snuggler in bed, something he found he adored immensely. Having his legs tangled with hers as they fell asleep, feeling the steady beating of her heart, put him to sleep faster than a hard day of practice.

They spent the morning eating breakfast together—or trying to. Penny’s habit walking around in nothing but one of his T-shirts meant they spent most of the morning making out and having sex in the kitchen. Liam hadn’t realized how much he enjoyed hot, intense quickies until Penny. Just the other night, she’d gone into his office to see if he was up for a movie. While he finished answering some emails, she’d teased him, nibbling along his neck as her hands slid under his shirt and lower. She’d unbuttoned his jeans and was jerking him off until he couldn’t stand it any longer. He’d grabbed her by the hips, spun her around, bent her over the desk and filled her until she was moaning and crying out his name.

Sex with Penny was beyond amazing, but it was the little things she did during the day Liam found himself falling in love with. The way she cracked her knuckles out of habit when she was deep in thought. She chewed on all her pens and doodled when she was trying to come up with ideas.

“This is really good,” he’d told her sincerely. “Are they all dark like this?”

“Yeah. The darker ideas always fascinated me. You really think it’s good? You don’t have to lie, you know. You can be honest. I can take it.”

He’d caught her hand and dragged her back to the couch. “I’m serious. I mean, yeah, it could use some editing, but you’re a damn good storyteller. That one right there just gave me the creeps, in a good way. You’re going to show these to someone, right? You have to.”

“I don’t know.”

“Don’t start doubting yourself now. You’ve got this. Besides, you have a year off work, remember? Make something of it.”

From that moment on, Penny was showing him everything she wrote. He was more than happy to be her sounding board and give her ideas when she was stuck. Most of the time was spent listening to her ramble on and on until she had an epiphany and would hurry off to write it all down before she forgot. Hearing Penny talk was soothing, and Liam looked forward to those moments during the day when they would see each other just so he could hear her talk about whatever was on her mind. When he told her about his past, he
